Title at bottom of post
As soon as I saw the prompt for Poetry Thursday I knew exactly the poem to submit. This is an oldie from the archive. See if you can guess the artist. If not from the words, certainly the picture at the bottom will be enough. If you still aren’t sure I put the original title at the bottom.
What if this day brought with it colors
wrought in tear-stained stone. Would it
be a remembrance to dally on? What if
the sun were blotted out and the light became
awash in shadow? Would the day then be
a waving, rolling wheat field for you to
drown in? “But” you say, “that is not my doing.
I am only, after all, one who tumbles
with the wind and I thought I could respond
with grace and thus brighten the day by
stroking it with ochre and azure as if the sun
came out of my belly, and fields of poppies
came from my heart, like the love that is hidden
in skies of vermilion and French sidewalk cafe’s”

Sonnet To Van Gogh

Great poem. It wasn’t until the final line that I guessed which painting you had used. Many others crossed my mind before that. Good write!
Love is true, not matter if bright reds and yellows, or somber grays and browns.
Love is like the wind, always present, always aware.
Like the poem Ron.
stroking the day with azure and ochre is particualrly lovely.
I LOVE Van Gogh- in fact, that was my pick for today’s prompt as well. Such a beautiful use of words, Ron, for such a beautiful work of art… thank you.
Dear Ron, thank you for stopping by and for filling our mouths with these yummy words.
Siren Song
A splendid poetic walk to French sidewalk cafe. Your words flowed so well.
Loved it Ron! I almost chose it
“brighten the day by
stroking it with ochre and azure as if the sun
came out of my belly,” this line particularly resonates with me. A beautiful piece - I have never tried to write in form, it always impresses me when someone pulls it off so well.
Thanking all of you so much for your kindness. I am trying to get around to visiting all of you as well. It feels like a gathering of friends who genuinely like each other. Between Poetry Thursday and One Deep Breath you all keep me inspired like I haven’t felt in a long time. Thanks,
Ron
“thus brighten the day by

came out of my belly, and fields of poppies
came from my heart.”
