Walk Softly Live Gently

If you wander don’t worry you’re not lost

Consciousness

When asked the question, what is consciousness? we become conscious of consciousness.

And most of us take this consciousness of consciousness to be what consciousness is.

This is not true.

- Julian Jaynes

Gentleness

The gentlest thing in the world

overcomes the hardest thing in the world.

That which has no substance enters where there is no space.

This shows the value of non-action.

Teaching without words, performing without actions:

That is the Masters way.

Dualities

“Life is the coexistence of all opposite values.

Joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, up and down,

hot and cold, here andthere, light and darkness, birth and death.

All experience is bycontrast, and one would be meaningless without the other.”

Deepak Chopra

Happy Valentine Day

This is out my front door this morning after a couple of inches of unexpected snow last night.

Out My Front Door

Here’s the roses I got Jen last night for today. I couldn’t hide them overnight so she got them early.

Jens Roses

Happy Valentines Day to all. May you find and know love today. (Just look inside. It’s all there!)

Sense of Awe

“When they lose their sense of awe,

people turn to religion.

When they no longer trust themselves,

they begin to depend upon authority.”

tao te ching, 72a

we’re not used to it….

being seemingly animate things

that shine on after we’re gone

like a toppled buddha.

There was a time we thought

mom would live forever because

of her hard work at making people happy

in her vivid and lucid dreams she

attempted to fulfill.

But alas, the house is empty

no longer yielding to her touch,

as faceless fear crept around her circle

when banging doors stirred the dust

from the hourglass, broken, sand

trapped in a shadowed box of iniquity

smelling like old rain,

warm in the sunlight.

I Laughed

I Laughed uncomfortably

when I did what I did
at the knock on the door,
at the shadows in the window
when the moon poked its face through the pines.

Thus was it ever so,
Before this thing that stalked the denim night,
Before your image raced across the bare wall
when I thought I had buried
you deeper than dark, and all I wanted to remember
was the last time we talked.

Ego-notion

We have only to eliminate

the ego-notion by succeeding

in the difficult task of understanding

that it does not exist

except as a notion.

Magic Moments

This for “Writers Island” in response to this weeks prompt: ‘Magic’. I have not posted in some time but felt the need to share a little bit of the magic in my experience.

We stared. And stared the more

enthralled at the glow in the eyes

as we stared….and said nothing for long moments

then she said, “I love you too”

although I had not yet spoken but only the thought.

it was the most magical of moments

one of many such moments we would cherish

and to this day the memory is as magical

as the reality once was.

As if Dreaming

The sky becomes one with its clouds
the waves with their mist.
In Heaven’s starry river, a thousand sails
dance.
As if dreaming, I return to the place
where the Highest lives,
and hear a voice from the heavens:
Where am I going?
I answer, “The road is long,”
and sigh; soon the sun will be setting.
Hard to find words in poems to carry
amazement:
on its ninety-thousand-mile wind,
the huge inner bird is soaring.
O wind, do not stop–
My little boat of raspberry wood
has not yet reached the Immortal Islands.
