What we appear to be is a fleeting shadow, a distorted and fragmentary reflection of what we all are when we no longer assume that we are that phenomenal appearance.
"The Tenth Man" by Wei Wu Wei..

Your constant utilization of thought to give continuity to your separate self is 'you'. There is nothing there inside you other than that.

It is pleasant to have been to a place the way a river went.
Thoreau

The only real service we can render to that which we perceive and interpret in phenomenal existence as 'others' is by awakening to universal consciousness ourselves.

Ask the Awakened by Wei Wu Wei

A myriad bubbles were floating on the surface of a stream.

'What are you?' I cried to them as they drifted by.

'I am a bubble, of course' nearly a myriad bubbles answered,

and there was surprise and indignation in their voices as they passed.

But, here and there, a lonely bubble answered,

'We are this stream',

and there was neither surprise nor indignation in their voices,

but just a quiet certitude. -

A little darker look than previous. It reminds me of some neighborhoods I hung out in many years ago. I enjoyed working with the pallete knives on this one.

Southernisms

To all you beautiful Southern Folk out there, and you wanna be's, here's a compilation of good ole southernisms:

Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hissy fit and a conniption, and that you don't "HAVE" them, you "PITCH" them.

Only a Southerner knows how many fish, collard greens, turnip greens, peas, beans, etc., make up "a mess."

Only a Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of "yonder."

Only a Southerner knows exactly how long "directly" is, ... As in: "Going to town, be back directly."

Rumi.

I can always count on mr Rumi to come up with the most esoteric, pithy little statements that take one to another level altogether.

"Let the waters settle

Here's another favorite of mine...Lao Tzu

Emptiness here is the same as Emptiness there.

The space behind your mind is the same as the space behind mine.

What sees out my eyes, sees out yours.

Walk outside, breath the air

Walk outside and remember.

The Tao is an empty vessel; it is used, but never filled.

Lao Tzu

Think Back

Think back to a happy time.

A really, really happy time in your life.

Go back as far as it takes.

To a time when you felt so light you thought you might float.

Do you remember it?

The carefree feeling?

The acceptance of the moment, of yourself, of life?

Feeling unfettered by thoughts of the future, and oblivious to the past?

Feel it a little longer...

There.

Very nice.

I wish I could remember where I got this. I'm almost sure I didn't write it myself but can't remember the author. Oh, well, whoever you are I thank you.

From Graceful Presence

Arousing Resonance

"So as we sort through the rubble of historically charged images (of God, spirit, essence, love, the infinite...) by what standard do we gather them to our heart? It cannot be by their institutional authority alone. It cannot be because our family (or culture or church) or ethnic tradition embraced them. It can only be if they move us, that is set off a resonance within us. If such resonance occurs, the activation of like to like in some hidden harmony, then we know that that image has some meaning for us. No amount of will power or faith can, as such, arouse such resonance for us. When the spirit has departed, we cannot will it back. Though we may not understand why, when the spirit is present, we will be moved."

On Writing

"We transition from the clean page to the dizzying rush of word upon word to the saying said and the calm point that comes after the spirit has manifested itself in language. The paper holds the words; they are secure and steady there. We become steady as well. For the time being, mystery has unveiled itself."

"To write spiritually is to engage in a search for authentic language. You’ll find your truth by writing your way to it."

Patrice Vecchione

Liberal?...Me? My youngest child, bless her heart, said I was a 'raving liberal in my old(er) age. : ) Wellll...so be it. I don't like labels as such. They divide us so. If I call someone a liberal or a conservative or a fundamentalist or whatever, I unwittingly create a boundary, a wall around them that at !!!the least slows down our ability to communicate. I would rather keep an open mind. Neither can I conceive of myself as a 'raving' anything. When I think of raving I think of (on the other side of the spectrum)Rush Limbaugh and the like. Women Who Run With The Wolves

(This wonderful passage was given to me by a dear friend who perhaps herself also runs with the wolves)

By way of this metaphor of innocent sleep, the fisherman trusts the life/Death/Life nature enough to rest !!!and to revivify in her presence. He is entering into a transition that will take him to a deeper !!!understanding, a higher stage of maturity. When lovers enter this state, they are surrendering to the !!!forces within themselves, those that have trust, faith, and the profound power of innocence. In this !!!spiritual sleep the lover trusts that the works of his soul will be worked in him, that all will be as it should be. This lover sleeps the sleep of the wise instead of the wary. There is a wariness that is real, !!!when danger is near, and wariness that is unwarranted and that comes from having been wounded previously. !!!The latter causes men and women, both, to act touchy and disinterested even when they feel they would !!!like to display warmth and caring. Persons who are afraid of being "taken for a ride" or of "being !!!trapped" --or who vociferously state their claims over and over again of wanting to "be free" --are those !!!who let the gold slip right through their fingers.

Separation

Posted on January 21st, 2007 in Spirit by Ron Russo

In Christian circles we say that sin separates us from God. The concept of sin is, at its root, the forgetting of who you really are. When you remember that you are indeed, one with God and of necessity everyone else, then you do not do those things that we love to categorize with terms such as ‘sin’. Our forgetfulness separates us. One of our many illusions.

“Nothing can separate us from the love of God…”
